Designing a Chimera Data Platform
Redefining the scope of software design to build a coherent, unified experience across systems.
How do you define the scope of work that you and your team are responsible for? What do you consider somebody else’s job?
Your scope determines what projects you take on and how you approach them, even if you never consciously define it.
When I started my role as head of the internal software team at a biotech startup, I defined my team’s scope based on how I had worked previously at a software product company.
But it turns out I would need to rethink it.
In my latest blog post, I explore how expanding my definition of the software team’s scope has led us to begin designing what I call a “chimera data platform” that provides a consistent, integrated user experience across a collection of custom and off-the-shelf systems.
