We’ve now made it through the twelve development principles for Biotech data teams that I started writing about back in October. So I thought it would be a good time to announce some exciting news:
I’m working with O’Reilly to publish a short book about them! And the kind folks at Saturn Cloud are covering the publishing costs so that we can make it available as a free eBook. (I’ll also have printed copies to give away at some upcoming talks I’m giving - more on that later.)
This mini-book will cover a lot of the same ideas that I’ve written about in my newsletter posts. But now that I’ve gone through them all a second time, I’ve added a much more nuanced and deeper understanding of how they all fit together. So even if you’ve read all the posts, I bet you’ll find something new in the book.
The reason I asked for your input on a name for the principles a couple weeks back was that I needed to finalize it for the the final draft. And as you probably figured out from the subject line, I finally settled on Reciprocal Development Principles, which I think emphasizes how these principles are about pushing the wet lab/bench teams to support your data team, just as much as you’re supporting them.
Thank you to everyone who voted in the poll and submitted suggestions. This one actually came from a conversation with my editor at O’Reilly (Thanks, Virginia!) after I sent out the poll. Two of the three options in the poll (Adaptive and Responsive) came out of a discussion with ChatGPT, so it’s good to know that the winner came from a person.
The eBook is currently planned to be released in early March, and I’ll send out an email to this list as soon as it’s available. (So if you’re not subscribed yet, click that button to be the first to hear when it’s ready.) Until then, you can find all the original newsletter posts through this page and I’ll be exploring the Reciprocal Development Principles in more detail every week as usual. So stay tuned!
So very excited to see the book!
So very exciting, looking forward to getting the book!
